Nearly 20 years after my first viewing, "Barfly" remains a film that is deeply etched within my psyche, haunting my visions even as I read "Love is.

It was a bit awkward for me to read something in script form. Its full of all the Bukowski cliches and there are a few laughs. Not that this is bad but I'd recomend Bukowski's Hollywood which is his account of the making of the Barfly movie, and even watching the film before I would reading the script/5(5).

'Barfly' is a funny, light, tender movie rather than a hard, desperate one. Despite the fact that there are two other Bukowski movies, none of them match the authenticity of the books. Dunaway is great, but the fact remains that she is way too glamourous for the role of Wanda - plus she's a thin woman, not a curvy type, so she doesn't fit the : Comedy.

Here are the best quotes from the Charles Bukowski penned filmstarring Mickey Rourke as Henry Chinaski and Faye Dunaway as main love interest Wanda Wilcox, was released in Charles Bukowski makes a cameo in the film, as a barfly, which you can watch below.

The movie "BarFly" is based on three days on author's Charles Bukowski's life when he was 29 years old. I have seen this movie numerous times (at least 50) and still get something new out of each time.

One of my buddies once said of the movie, "I felt like taking a 5/5(2). Directed by Barbet Schroeder. With Mickey Rourke, Faye Dunaway, Alice Krige, Jack Nance. Based on the life of successful poet Charles Bukowski and his exploits in Hollywood during the 60s, 70s, and 80s/10(K).

Louis Armstrong was trying to explain jazz one day, and he finally gave up and said, "There are some folks that, if they don't know, you can't tell 'em." The world of Charles Bukowski could be addressed in the same way.

Bukowski is the poet of Skid Row, the Los Angeles drifter who spent his life until age 50 in an endless round of saloons and women, all of them cheap, expensive, bad or good in.

Though ''Barfly'' makes some half-hearted passes at explaining alcoholism as a way of dealing with life's pervasive second-rateness, it remains. Barfly Synopsis: Henry Chinaski never cared for the American dream, the thought of needing to become 'something' and fit into the system disgusts him.

He believes that life is free and yours to live like you see fit, and if that in some cases involves copious amounts of whiskey then so be it/   To me the difference between the movies is Barfly has a gritty warmth where Factotum is detached and cool, and that is the work of the directors.

Imagine Rourke in Factotum. It would still be the same movie. I don't know if Dillon in Barfly would have been exactly the same, but I think Schroeder would have got a different performance out of him. Barfly is a semi-autobiographical film both written for the screen by and based on the life of American literary icon Charles Bukowski.
